Buran Pass is an adventurous high-altitude trek in Himachal Pradesh, known for dense forests, traditional Himalayan villages, alpine meadows, Chandranahan Lake, dramatic mountain scenery and an exciting high-altitude pass crossing.
Buran Pass is located in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. The trek is commonly approached from Janglik village in the Pabbar Valley and crosses into the Barua side of the region.
Buran Pass is generally rated Moderate to Difficult. The trek involves long walking days, steep ascents and descents, high-altitude terrain and a demanding pass crossing. Good physical fitness and previous trekking experience are strongly recommended.
Buran Pass reaches an altitude of approximately 15,000 ft above sea level.
The total trekking distance is approximately 35–40 km, depending on the exact itinerary, campsite locations and route followed.
The Himalayasgriffon Buran Pass itinerary is planned as a multi-day high-altitude trek, including transportation according to the selected package. The exact duration depends on the itinerary and travel arrangements.
The trek generally begins from Janglik village, which is reached through the Pabbar Valley region of Himachal Pradesh. From Janglik, the trail progresses through forests and meadows towards the higher camps and Buran Pass.
Buran Pass is generally not recommended for complete beginners. Previous trekking experience is strongly preferred because the route involves significant altitude gain, steep terrain and a demanding pass crossing.
The preferred seasons for Buran Pass are generally May to June and September to October, depending on snow, weather and trail conditions. Each season offers a different landscape and trekking experience.
Yes. Snow is commonly encountered around the higher sections and near Buran Pass, particularly during the early summer season. Snow conditions vary depending on the month and prevailing weather.
The Buran Pass crossing is the most adventurous section of the trek. Trekkers climb to approximately 15,000 ft before making a steep descent from the pass. Depending on snow conditions, this section can involve challenging snow terrain and requires close supervision from the trek team.
Chandranahan Lake is a beautiful high-altitude lake system in the region and one of the major attractions of the Buran Pass Trek. A visit to the lake may be included in the itinerary depending on weather, trail and operational conditions.
Accommodation generally includes guest house/homestay and camping, depending on the itinerary and operational conditions. Most sections of the trekking route involve camping.
Yes. Meals are provided according to the Himalayasgriffon package and are generally vegetarian, with the exact meal plan shared before departure.
Transportation depends on the selected Himalayasgriffon package. Pickup and drop-off details will be clearly mentioned in the booking itinerary.
Essential items include:
Additional technical or snow equipment may be required depending on the conditions around the pass.
Yes. Proper trekking shoes with strong grip and ankle support are essential because the trail includes steep, rocky, uneven, muddy and potentially snowy sections.
Yes. Selected trekking equipment can be arranged on a rental basis, subject to availability. Pre-booking is recommended.
Yes, when undertaken with proper preparation, acclimatisation and professional trek support. However, Buran Pass is a demanding high-altitude trek, and weather and snow conditions can change quickly. Trekkers should always follow the trek leader's instructions.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Make sure the policy covers high-altitude trekking activities and emergency medical/evacuation requirements.
Suitability depends on age, fitness, medical condition and previous high-altitude trekking experience. Because Buran Pass involves demanding terrain and a high-altitude pass crossing, individual capability should be carefully assessed before booking.
If heavy snowfall, rain, poor visibility, unsafe snow conditions, trail damage or other factors make the route unsafe, the trek leader may modify the itinerary, delay the pass crossing, change the route or stop the group from proceeding.
The itinerary is planned for a Buran Pass crossing, but the actual crossing is subject to weather, snow, trail conditions, group fitness and safety considerations. Safety always takes priority over completing the pass crossing.
With Himalayasgriffon, the focus is on a safe, well-organised and authentic high-altitude Himalayan experience, supported by local knowledge, trained trek staff and carefully planned logistics.

It was an amazing trekking experience! The arrangements were perfect, guides were super helpful, and the overall vibe was just awesome. We enjoyed every moment and created unforgettable memories. Highly recommended for every adventure lover!

Points that really worked for me. All home stay we stayed, Wherher it was at Sankari or Osla were very comfortable and great hospitality. Timely food and family like atmosphere in mountains and when you are seating in the tent when it rains outside, the conversations and stories from our Trek leader Suraj were interesting and entertaining. Suraj Rana definitely should be your trek guide. But be prepared for the mountains. As they say Mumbai ka fashion aur pahado ka Mausam kabhi bhi badal sakta hai Thanks Suraj Rana

My trip was great with himalayasgriffon❤️ .Food was nice. Our trek leader vijalu sir was very helpful and supportive, thanks

Had a great experience with the Himalayasgriffon. Shoutout to our trek leader Chaitnaya and Suraj sir without them things would have not been this smooth. Thank you to both the leaders for all the support.
